Have you ever had your plans all mapped out—the way you wanted everything to go—only for life to step in and take a sharp turn?
One moment, everything feels steady.
The next, you’re staring straight at a bend in the road you didn’t ask for.
And if we’re honest, in those moments it’s easy to believe that the bend is actually a dead end.
But it’s not.
I’ve faced more than a few of those bends in my own life. Some of them came with disappointment. Some came with confusion. And some came with decisions I didn’t want to make.
One of the hardest for me involved something I truly loved.
For years, I hosted my own radio show as the midday personality on my station from 10:00 to 2:00, Monday through Friday. Right in the middle of that show was something I created called the All Request Jukebox Lunch Hour. From noon to 1:00 every weekday, listeners would call in, we’d visit, and I’d play their favorite songs.
It wasn’t just part of my job—it was my favorite part.
But as time went on, the weight of responsibility grew. Running the station, managing operations, handling ownership duties—it all demanded more of me. And eventually, I had to face a truth I didn’t want to accept:
I couldn’t keep doing everything.
So I made the difficult decision to step away from the mic and hand that role over to someone on my team.
And I won’t sugarcoat it—it hurt.
There was a season where I felt a real sense of loss. It felt like I was being forced to let go of something that brought me joy. In that moment, it didn’t feel like a bend in the road.
It felt like an ending.
But it wasn’t.
Over time, I began to see what I couldn’t see in the middle of the emotion. By letting go of what I wanted to do, I made room for what I was called to do in that season.
The station began to grow in other areas. Things improved. And the person who stepped into that role did a fantastic job.
More than that, I gained something I didn’t realize I needed—time.
Time right in the middle of the day to focus on what keeps the station thriving.
What once felt like loss turned out to be alignment.
That bend in the road wasn’t taking me away from something good—it was guiding me toward something better.
Sometimes what feels like a setback is actually God’s protection.
Sometimes it’s redirection.
And sometimes it’s preparation for what’s next.
Falling short of what you planned isn’t failure.
And a bend in the road is never the end of your story.
It’s just a different direction.
The key is what you choose to do when you get there.
You can stand still and wish things were the way they used to be…
Or you can embrace the change, trust the process, and keep moving forward with gratitude.
Because falling isn’t failing.
Staying down is.
And your road?
It’s still going.
